By train:
- Airport ¨ Tokyo
Take the Narita Express
(N'EX) train bound for Tokyo station. The Narita Airport station is located
inside the airport. Tickets can be purchased at the station from the "green" JR
(Japan Railways) counters.
- Tokyo ¨ Sendai
Take the Tohoku Shinkansen (Japanese
bullet train, JR-EAST)
which goes to Sendai Station. The journey on the fastest Tohoku Shinkansen
"HAYATE" and "KOMACHI" takes 1 hour and 45 minutes, whilst the Tohoku Shinkansen
"MAX YAMABIKO" takes 2 and a half hours. On Tohoku Shinkansen "HAYATE" and Akita
Shinkansen "KOMACHI", all seats are allocated. Tickets can be purchased from the
JR counters at the station at the time of travel, but it is advisable to make a
reservation in order to guarantee a seat.
*There are a number of rail passes available for foreign visitors of Japan.
Participants should consider if any of the available tickets are applicable

By plane:
- Several flights connect Narita and Sendai Airports. The Sendai
Airport Access Line links the Sendai
International Airport to Sendai Station within 25 minutes. Further

From Sendai Station to the Conference Venue (Katahira Sakura Hall)
- Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM)
is accessible from the JR Sendai Station in 20 min. on foot or in 5 min.
by taxi, etc. Further information is available here.

Katahira Sakura Hall in IMRAM, Tohoku University.
